Recovery is a Process, Not an Event
We have five decades of research proving that addiction is a chronic brain disorder, not a moral failing, yet we have been responding to it with the acute care model of addiction treatment and incarceration. This educational experience will provide information on the pathology and chronic nature of substance use disorder. We explore the limitations of the acute care model of addiction treatment and provide an overview of recovery oriented systems of care. We discuss the role public perception and pejorative language play in discriminatory policies, and we develop strategies to improve the culture in our communities to encourage more people and their families to seek care.
This event is free to everyone and only $5 for folks seeking addiction specific continuing education credit from NCSAPPB.
