“By using accurate, non-stigmatizing language, we can help break the stigma surrounding this disease so people can more easily access treatment, reach recovery, and live healthier lives.”
– Michael Botticelli, Former Director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy
Words have power. When we use clinically accurate, person-first language, we begin to dismantle stigma-driven attitudes and build effective systems of care. Our families and friends are more likely to seek help and that help is more likely to be accessible and adequate. To that end, we are excited to announce Language Matters Mondays! This series will provide our prevention, treatment, and recovery professionals with tools meant to reduce stigma and enhance wellness.
