Join us in a joyful welcome to our new team member Emmy Oakley. We brought her on board as our Program Coordinator at the beginning of the year. Emmy was born and raised in the Raleigh area. While it’s common for people to change their minds about what they want to be when they grow up all through adulthood, Emmy knew in the eighth grade that she was going to be a social worker. Her family lived in extreme poverty and she watched while friends, teachers, family, and even strangers, poured love and support into her life. At 14, she decided she wanted to spend her life doing her best to give the world back some of that love and support. She attended Appalachian State University for both her BSW and MSW (Go ‘Neers!). During that time she took part in the school’s Board Fellow Program and fell even more in love with nonprofits. She is incredibly thankful for the mentors that helped her get to where she is today, and she is excited to serve in a nonprofit that empowers its members to better care for our most vulnerable populations. Emmy will be very much a creative driving force behind our movement to raise the profile and value of APNC membership and enhance the relevance and quality of our conferences.
